(ECY)

Subject:Additional comments to the proposed Jefferson County LA-SMP
Categories:LASMP Public Comment
Date: April 11, 2010

From: Robert & Marilyn Knutson
1385 East Ludlow Ridge Road
Port Ludlow, WA 98365

To: Jeffree Stewart, Shoreline Specialist
Washington State Department of Ecology
300 Desmond Drive
Lacey, WA 98503

Email:

Sent by email and US Mail

We have a number of additional comments that we wish to make, regarding the Jefferson County LA-SMP,
as submitted to the Department of Ecology. We do expect a reply to all questions.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

1. The proposed Uniform setback of 150 feet in rural Jefferson County

The proposed 150 foot setback is uniform in nature, not taking into account variations in land, slope, bluff,
etc.

QUESTION: Wouldn't it make more sense to vary the setback based on the actual conditions of

each land parcel?

QUESTION: What scientific data supports a change to a uniform setback?

2. Shoreline designation around that land known as "Tala Point"

The shoreline around Tala Point was previously designated "rural residential".
It is now proposed to be changed to "conservancy" even though there is a proposed development that
would more than triple the existing homes on Tala Point. Since Pope Resources is in the process of
developing another 50 + housing units on this point, and the county is aware of this proposed growth, it

does not seem to be a rational decision on the part of either Jefferson County or DOE.

QUESTION: What scientific data supports such a change?

QUESTION: Who made such a recommendation, and were they aware of the future

development of Tala Point at the time they proposed such a change?

1
