SMP
Categories:LASMP Public Comment
Re: Jefferson County Shorlines Master Plan

Dear Mr. Stewart:

I am writing to comment on the Jefferson County Shoreline Master Plan. I live on the water,
and those of us fortunate enough to experience the beauty of our waterfront want to insure
that not only for ourselves but for all citizens. It is our duty to protect and defend our
waters from all threats, as we now see so clearly on the Gulf of Mexico.

The buffers are correct and necessary. With the rising sea level and increased frequency,
duration and intensity of storms anyone living as close as I do would appreciate it, if only
for their own safety. The SMP clearly states in language we can all understand the reasons
for rules about these protections.

The prohibition of net pen farming is long overdue. They should be outlawed everywhere. The
sea lice are a significant part of the reason why the fisheries are in trouble. The fishing
industry supports much of our econony and that of out neighbor to the north, Canada, and we
must to everything we can do to prevent further losses of fish stocks and habitat. I've
personally researched this issue and find it so alarming that I've brought it to the
attention of my local supermarket (QFC) that sells farmed fish. I don't touch the stuff,
EVER. You shouldn't either.
Ask if the source isn't identified.

Puget Sound and the Salish Sea are our treasure. We can't do too much to protect it.

And don't get me started on hyper corrosion in double-walled oil tankers.

Thanks very much,

R.
