(ECY)
Subject:support the Shoreline Master Program
Categories:LASMP Public Comment

May 6, 2010

Mr. Jeffree Stewart, Regional Planner

Washington State Department of Ecology

P O Box 47775

Olympia WA 98504

RE: The Locally Approved Jefferson County Shoreline Master Program

I am a citizen of Jefferson County, living in Chimacum and I am writing to day to let you know I
support the Shoreline Master Program adopted by the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners. I
am very appreciative of the opportunity to express my views one more time.

I feel the Department of Community Development (DCD) provided multiple opportunities for
involvement over a four year period, including several direct mailings to shoreline property owners.
And I also feel it was balanced to meet needs of both property owners and Puget Sounds ecosystem
?
using peer-reviewed science to support policies and decisions.

Specifically I support this list of items...
150 foot buffers which were supported by ample testimony at all the hearings and meetings and are
supported in the current science as a compromise of buffer widths necessary to protect shoreline
functions. Plus, provides for flexible buffer modification where modifications are appropriate (i.e.,
where there is no net loss to shoreline functions).

Minimizes the need for shoreline armoring by encouraging non- structural remedies.
The felt the clear language and policies make it easier for citizens to understand the SMP and clear
regulations provides land use consistency and improves property values.
1
