The Elections Assistant provides support to election processes including ballot collection, intake,
and opening. This role requires flexibility, reliability, and the ability to perform high -volume,
repetitive tasks with accuracy and professionalism. This position reports to the Auditor.
Guidance and oversight may also be provided by the Elections Coordinator.
This is a temporary, seasonal position that will work during the 20-day voting period for Special,
Primary, and General Elections. The number of hours worked and the work schedule vary
according to the volume of work.
This is a Clerk Hire position. Clerk Hires may work a maximum of 69 hours per month.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may
be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to

Accurately performs high -volume, repetitive tasks to support the coordination of election
processes.
Carries out duties that support the processing of all eligible voter ballots. Assists with secure
collection, transport, intake, and opening of ballots in accordance with election procedures.
Ballot Collection: Travels to designated drop box locations to securely collect, seal, and transport
ballots to the Auditor's Office.
Opening Board: Separates, opens, and inspects ballots to prepare them for scanning.
Intake: Sorts, counts, and scans ballot return envelopes for signature verification preparation.
Ensures ballots are securely stored in designated areas.
Quickly and accurately assesses and records data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and two (2) years of

experience in routine clerical or elections work. Related coursework or training
may be substituted for experience.
Individuals who are running for office, campaigning for a candidate or ballot
measure, or are active members of a political party are not eligible for this position.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret a variety of documents. Demonstrates clear and
concise written communication skills, including basic writing skills. Effectively
communicates verbally in both one-on-one and group settings, including presenting
information to the public and staff.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and
percent.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved
written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete
variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Washington State Driver's License.
Required to pass criminal background check.
