Friends, neighbors –
Hope you all had a lovely weekend. Last week was especially busy in DC, here are moments you might have missed:
One Step Closer to House Passage: ANCHOR for Military Families Act
I’m thrilled to share that my bill, the Assuring Navigation of Compact Help for Ongoing Relocation (ANCHOR) for Military Families Act, was included in the House’s Fiscal Year 2026 National
Defense Authorization Act which passed out of committee last week! This legislation ensures military families are informed about their educational rights, school enrollment support,
and relocation resources like housing assistance, spouse employment services, and Exceptional Family Member Program support during Permanent Change of Station moves. I first tackled
this issue in the Washington State Senate—and now we’re working on making it a reality for every military family in the country. See my Facebook post here <https://iqconnect.house.gov/iqextranet/iqC

New Role: Chairing the Better Pay & Benefits Task Force
Big news! I’ll be serving as Chair of the Better Pay and Benefits Task Force as part of the Congressional Progressive Caucus’s newly announced policy initiatives. I’m honored to lead
this work alongside Vice Chair Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10) and push for legislation that gives everyone a fairer, better experience at work. See my Facebook post here. <https://iqconnect.house.gov/iqext

Fighting for Our District in Defense Appropriations
My district is home to three major military installations, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Naval Base Kitsap, and Tacoma Reserve, that not only support our national defense but power our
local economy. This year’s defense spending bill included harmful policies that limit access to reproductive health care for service members and roll back protections for LGBTQ+ military
families. I fought to remove these harmful provisions and secure funding for local priorities. While I was successful in securing funds for some important local projects, like Tribal
shellfish beach restoration, ultimately, I could not vote for a bill that fails to protect the people who put their lives on the line for our country.
Protecting Public Broadcasting
“In the rural parts of my district, public broadcasting isn’t a luxury. It’s a lifeline,” I said during this week’s fight over recissions. Families in communities like Chehalis, Aberdeen,
and Hoquiam rely on public radio for weather alerts, educational programming, and local news. This bill threatens to eliminate those critical services, and I voted no to protect the
families who count on them every day. As Congress begins work on next year’s funding bills, I will fight to restore this funding that our communities rely on. See my Recission Package

Community Project Funding
Nearly $18 million in Community Project Funding for Washington’s 6th Congressional District was included in the House’s draft government funding bills for this upcoming fiscal year!
These investments span all six counties in our district and include infrastructure upgrades, health care expansion, and public safety projects. Even with new rules that made it harder
to secure funding for Democratic-led requests, we delivered. Check out the full list of projects here <https://iqconnect.house.gov/iqextranet/iqClickTrk.aspx?&cid=WA06ER&crop=14496.5628369.5187019.7

Standing Up for Tribal Services
This week, I led my Democratic colleagues on the Indian and Insular Affairs Subcommittee in demanding answers from the Department of the Interior about major staffing shortages at the
Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Bureau of Trust Fund Administration. Up to 40% of staff could be lost—putting law enforcement, infrastructure, and Tribal trust services at risk. Tribes
deserve answers and action, not broken promises. I’ll keep fighting to protect Tribal sovereignty and ensure our government meets its trust obligations. See my Facebook post here <https://iqconnect.
