Hello All, Mowing the county road shoulders in area 22 (Thorndyke, Coyle, Dabob) has not happened on schedule this year and, as a result, has caused a fire safety hazard. One month ago it became obvious that the tall grasses were not getting mowed like each previous year. I sent emails to county roads and was assured that "it's on the list" and "we will get there". Roads told me that they were on South Point and headed our way. Another two weeks went by and I saw that a brush cutter (not a flail mower) had only just reached Thorndyke and was doing a full cut up the bank. I sent a follow up email, asserting that this appears to be behind schedule and, at this rate, it would be the middle of fire season before they reached Coyle. I probably wouldn't be writing this email, but for the reply telling me that they were not late and this is normal. Now it's another two weeks later and nothing has changed in our area. We are in the heart of fire season with dead and dying grass in many places three feet tall and leaning into the traffic lane. Drivers are actually crowding the centerline to avoid the grass. I have attached photos of the current conditions and a photo from 1938 showing a fire on the Hood Canal consuming ten square miles. This is not a beautification concern. Thanks for your attention in an effort to not normalize this. -- Thane Grooms Captain, Station 22 Coyle Quilcene Fire Rescue tgrooms@qfr2.org <mailto:tgrooms@qfr2.org> Office 360-765-3333 Cell 360-509-7750
