RE: Jefferson County Courthouse Roof Stabilization Project
Dear Senator Murray:
Three years ago, with the help of a grant from the 1 IUD-Economic Development Initiative (EDI),
Jefferson County successfully completed the rehabilitation ofthe landmark Courthouse Clock
Tower.
In rebruary ofthis year, Jef):erson County applied for an EDI grant to address the next crucial
step in the rehabilitation of this National Historic Landmark. The Courthouse Roof Stabilization
Project is now being designed by a team of architects and engineers. This project addresses
structural deficiencies that risk structural failure in the event of a moderate (or worse) seismic
event or severe wind. This project has been part of the overall plan f()[ the building since its
conception as part of a structural analysis in 2004.
We appreciate your support for the rehabilitation of the Jefferson County Courthouse. Please do
not hesitate to schedule a visit at your convenience. Our Courthouse is the keystone of Port
Townsend's Historic Landmark District and an active center of government services.
Contact Gordon Ramstrom, Project Architect at 360-385-9380, or via email at
gramstrom@co.jefferson.wa.us with any questions that you may have about this project.
We again seek the support of the HUD-Economic Development Initiative program to partner
with us in our goal toward rehabilitating the entire Courthouse.
Sincerely,
