Working Together to Respond to the Elwha River Tanker Spill The recent fuel tanker accident near Indian Creek — a tributary of the Elwha River — was a devastating blow to our environment, our clean water supply, and our local communities. Since the moment the spill occurred, I’ve been working with local, state, federal, and Tribal partners to coordinate a swift, comprehensive response. We’re focused on cleanup, protecting drinking water, and preserving the hard-won progress we’ve made on salmon recovery and river restoration. Staying Safe During the Mason County Wildfires As wildfires continue to burn in parts of Mason County, I want to thank our brave firefighters and first responders working around the clock to protect our communities. Please continue to follow all local evacuations guidance, stay clear of active fire zones, and avoid building campfires or using outdoor flames of any kind. Staying alert and out of the way keeps everyone safe- and lets our fire crews do their jobs effectively. I’ll keep sharing updates as the situation evolves. Fighting Mail Theft and Protecting Postal Workers Last week, I spoke at a Government Operations Subcommittee hearing to raise serious concerns about mail theft and rising attacks on letter carriers — especially in rural districts like ours. Washingtonians should be able to rely on the Postal Service for safe and timely delivery of medications, ballots, bills, and personal mail, which is why I pressed officials on what they’re doing to stop violent crime against carriers. Exciting Meetings with Neighbors It was great meeting with Ocean Spray this week to talk about the future of agriculture in Washington and the importance of supporting our cranberry growers. We discussed the challenges family farms are facing and how federal policy can help protect local jobs, strengthen food supply chains, and invest in sustainable farming. I’m committed to lifting up our rural economies and ensuring Washington’s farmers have the resources they need to thrive. Additionally, it was a pleasure meeting with the Suquamish Tribe to discuss shared priorities — from protecting natural resources to supporting public safety and honoring Tribal sovereignty. I’m grateful for the opportunity to listen, learn, and work together to strengthen our communities and ensure Tribal voices are at every table. Welcome to Our New Communications Director!
