BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
CONSENT AGENDA REQUEST
TO: Board of County Commissioners
FROM: Shawn Frederick, Central Services Director
Phil Cecere,Jefferson County Fire Marshal
DATE: July 28,2025
SUBJECT: Electric Vehicle Charger Purchase for Fleet Vehicles
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Jefferson County has purchased several electric vehicles (EV)that require the use of charging stations. These
vehicles were purchased in advance of the State legislation mandate to limit or replace combustion engine
vehicles. The current available charger is limited to the shared charger located at the courthouse shared among
several vehicles and departments.
ANALYSIS:
Jefferson County staff has had to share a single charger location between three departments and three vehicles.
The heaviest user of these vehicles is the Fire Marshal located at Castle Hill. Rotating these vehicles when
charging is needed has been a challenge including an additional staff member and vehicle to make trips to pick
up or drop off vehicles at the courthouse. Efficiencies have been attempted to swap the EVs when possible if
vehicles requiring charging can be coordinated with sister departments. The current charger speed requires as
much as 13 hours of charge time to replenish the range on some vehicles. This has proved to be inadequate
for the intended use of this vehicle.
Through quarterly facilities meetings, locations and needs have been assessed and bids requested for the
installation of these chargers at the respective departments.Unfortunately, previous grant funded projects were
ultimately found unviable due to construction costs exceeding grant parameters.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The fiscal impact for this proposal is $10,280.21 from the general fund.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommend the Board approve funding the procurement and installation of 2 vehicle chargers. sao4o03te
