Schedule a public hearing date for the proposed 2011-2016
Six-Year Transportation Improvement Program (6-yr TIP)
Statement of Issue:
Schedule a public hearing for 10:00 AM on Monday, October 18, 2010 for the purpose
of receiving public testimony concerning adoption of the 2011-2016 Jefferson County
Six-Year Transportation Improvement Program (6-yr TIP).
RCW 36.81.121 obligates the legislative authority of each county in the state to adopt
on an annual basis a 6-yr TIP, holding a public hearing prior to adoption. The purpose
of the law is to "assure that each county shall perpetually have available advanced
plans looking to the future for not less than six years as a guide in carrying out a
coordinated transportation program" (RCW 36.81.121 (1)). Public Works prepares a
proposed 6-yr TIP and adopting Resolution for Board consideration. Materials will be
provided to the Commissioners' office prior to the public hearing.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pros 8: Cons:
The Board is required to set the hearing date and sign the legal notice to enable it to
be published prior to the hearing. This meets strategic goals 4b, 6a, and 7a.
FiscallmpactlCost-Benefit Analysis:
The cost for the hearing is minimal. The cost for the advertising is about $110.00.
Recommendation:
Authorize the Chair to sign the hearing notice and return it to Public Works for further
processing. Public Works will arrange for publication on October 6 and 13.
