The change means Veterans referred by VA to community care for eligible standardized types of care will receive 12 full months of uninterrupted treatment at VA expense before having
to obtain a VA reauthorization. Veterans will benefit from uninterrupted access to essential specialty services, allowing them to focus more on their health and less on navigating administrative
requirements. Community providers will be empowered to manage care with fewer administrative barriers and greater flexibility.

FORWARD MARCH: During a medical emergency, Veterans should immediately seek care at the nearest medical facility. A medical emergency is an injury, illness or symptom so severe that
without immediate treatment, an individual believes his or her life or health is in danger. If a Veteran believes his or her life or health is in danger or is experiencing a suicidal
crisis, they are encouraged to call 911 or report to the nearest emergency department right away.

Prior to the change announced earlier this week, some VA community care specialty referrals were reevaluated every 90 to 180 days, increasing the likelihood of interrupted or delayed
care.

to improve the quality of life and function of Veterans by developing, evaluating, and promoting the implementation of effective treatments for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
and its complex comorbidities. PTSD comorbidities include the behavioral consequences of repetitive blast mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI), Substance Use Disorder (SUD), chronic pain

As part of the VISN 20 NW MIRECC mission to enhance access to mental health expertise, the NW MIRECC collaborates and consults with other MIRECCs and Centers of Excellence, as well as
with other VA, Department of Defense (DoD), Federal, State departments of Veterans Affairs, community agencies, and experts. The close geographic proximity (40 miles) of DoD Joint Base
Lewis-McChord/Madigan Army Medical Center to VAPSHCS has provided an exciting opportunity to develop innovative and productive research, education, and clinical care collaborations
with DoD personnel that address PTSD and its associated conditions in their early stages in active-duty Servicemembers.
