All lanes open on US 101 near Kalaloch
Emergency erosion repairs complete
FORKS – Good news for US 101 travelers along the coast in Jefferson County: both lanes of the highway are now open near the Kalaloch campground.
On Tuesday, Aug. 19, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation restored the highway to its original configuration.
A section of US 101 was reduced to one lane of alternating travel in March after WSDOT maintenance crews discovered erosion next to the roadway.
Hillside and culvert repairs
Crews began work in July to repair a failed culvert under the highway. The work included adding trenches and rocks to stabilize the hillside and assist with drainage. Once repair work
was complete, crews repaved the highway over the culvert.
What’s next
After a curing period, crews will return to add permanent pavement markings. Travelers will see flaggers alternate traffic during that work.
