Climate disasters are rising, and Trump is pulling back help <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=f2f0dc43f0eac096d328cc0f0db8f9e4c86d69d0d34566c653dce4d09b511b922d4815e2e9e35a0b4fc72aa04e4b4ea48d1a6cc8e58ca4f6> <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=93c60bf42622bdda3fba09ee895795b20263e9bf022a1f949d07e2f5b1d3844aaacc0487d160680faf2c24807c42a4f83b56fd96e1d05c11> Photo by Craig Cameron John, As climate disasters become more frequent and destructive, the federal government should be strengthening disaster response systems, not tearing them down. But the Trump administration is doing the opposite. President Trump is moving to effectively eliminate FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, by slashing its funding, firing experienced staff, and shifting emergency response responsibilities to the states. This dangerous plan threatens to dismantle one of the most critical federal agencies at a time when wildfires, hurricanes, floods, and extreme heat are already devastating communities across the country. Experts are sounding the alarm. Without FEMA's coordination and resources, vulnerable communities — especially low-income, rural, and historically marginalized populations — will face greater risks during disasters. State and local governments simply do not have the capacity to fill the massive gap that FEMA would leave behind. Instead of investing in stronger preparedness and recovery efforts, the Trump administration is undermining the very systems meant to keep people safe. Read the full article from Sierra, the national magazine of the Sierra Club, to learn more about this reckless plan and what it means for communities already on the frontlines of the climate crisis. <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=93c60bf42622bdda5ecd23abf8703893d492cc99b98ea1cb1d548726d3da14241060701170cf907969e8323d84440eb5904ae71c560ae96f> READ MORE <http://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=f2f0dc43f0eac096d328cc0f0db8f9e4c86d69d0d34566c653dce4d09b511b922d4815e2e9e35a0b4fc72aa04e4b4ea48d1a6cc8e58ca4f6> Now more than ever, we need to protect the agencies that protect us.
