HomeMy WebLinkAboutCONSENT Advisory Apointment Noxious Weed JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS CONSENT AGENDA REQUEST TO: Board of County Commissioners Josh Peters, County Administrator FROM: Sophie DeGroot, Noxious Weed Control Coordinator DATE: August 25, 2025 SUBJECT: ADVISORY BOARD APPOINTMENT (1) re: Jefferson County Noxious Weed Control Board, Bruce Zoellick, District #2 Seat STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Noxious Weed Control Board currently has two empty seats (Districts#2 & #4). Cape George resident Bruce Zoellick has applied to represent District#2 on the Weed Board. ANALYSIS: Bruce Zoellick has 37 years of experience working as a Fish and Wildlife Biologist with experience at U.S. Fish and Wildlife, U.S. Bureau of Land Management, and the U.S. Forest Service. For 27 years with the BLM, he worked to treat noxious weeds in riparian areas and other public lands. He understands the risks and rewards of various types of weed treatments, as he has managed projects that used both herbicides and mechanical control methods. Please see his application for more details on these projects. Today, he is a resident of the Cape George Community and coordinates noxious weed control on the community properties. He is very proficient at identifying noxious weeds and understanding the best control methods. FISCAL IMPACT: This is a fiscally neutral request. RECOMMENDATION: The Jefferson County Noxious Weed Control Board voted on August 11, 2025, to recommend that the BOCC accepts Bruce Zoellick's application to represent District #2 on the Noxious Weed Control Board.
