HomeMy WebLinkAbout082225 - Press Release_ FIRE WEATHER WATCH FOR JEFFERSON COUNTYGood afternoon,
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a FIRE WEATHER WATCH Saturday morning through Saturday evening. The Jefferson County Fire Marshal and Jefferson County Fire Chiefs want
to remind our community residents and visitors that our forests are abnormally dry and will easily ignite. Our region is experiencing above average wildfire risk through September due
to these conditions. Even vegetation that looks healthy and green on top has dry and dead material beneath that will readily burn. In recent months, firefighters have responded to fires
and burn escapes where flames traveled through green vegetation and under shaded tree canopies. Please follow burn restrictions: HIGH.
When the fire danger is "high," fires can start easily from most causes, and small fuels (such as grasses and needles) will ignite readily. No person shall operate or use any device
liable to start or cause fire in or upon a “high” fire hazard. Restricted open flame devices. No wood, charcoal cooking Fires (BBQ), tiki torches, liquid fuel candles or lanterns, gas
or propane-fired weed burners, or discharge of fireworks of any type. No discharge of firearms in open lands or undeveloped lands of Jefferson County. Only gas or propane-fueled appliances
are allowed with an enclosed flame only (example: – UL listed wood pellet-fed or propane barbeque grills, smokers). Charcoal grills are allowed at a place of residence only.
Beyond Jefferson County, the threat is even greater with hot, dry, and unstable conditions increasing wildfire potential, leading to multiple red flag and fire weather watches in the
region starting today and continuing through the weekend. This will limit the availability of mutual aid resources to assist Jefferson County if a significant event occurs here.
The National Weather Service has issued a RED FLAG WARNING through Sunday for parts of Jefferson County. Please stay alert to local warnings and advisories and sign up for NIXLE. Have
a go bag ready and help any neighbors with mobility issues. To sign up for alerts from the Jefferson County WA Emergency Management and other public safety agencies in your area, visit:
