August 29, 2025 STATE NEWS DNR to Conserve 77,000 Acres of Mature August 29, 2025 <https://members.wsac.org/emailimages/1717107438240-WACountiesWeekly_Logo.png> STATE NEWS DNR to Conserve 77,000 Acres of Mature Forests: ‘We Are the Evergreen State’ Public Lands Commissioner Dave Upthegrove on Tuesday signed an order to conserve 77,000 acres of mature and older state forests across Western Washington. Upthegrove, who took charge of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in January, announced the move at a news conference held in the older forests of Tiger Mountain near Issaquah. The order protects structurally complex forests, including over 10,000 acres of older forests on state lands. It also tells the agency to pursue innovative strategies to ensure the forests’ long-term sustainability. Businesses in the area have been heavily impacted. Owners say they have seen a drop in customers since the closure on Aug. 19. According to the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT), the bridge will remain closed to traffic "until further notice."
