Tunnel Creek Trail #841 Closed due to
Wildfire Activity
QUILCENE, Wash., September 6, 2025 — On September 6, a fire was reported in Olympic National Forest near the Tunnel Creek Trail #841 in the Buckhorn Wilderness. The fire – named the
Tunnel Creek Fire – is burning on a steep, rocky slope south of Tunnel Creek and southwest of Quilcene. The fire is approximately 40 acres. There is no current threat to structures
or nearby communities. The Tunnel Creek Trail is closed until further notice.
Due to the steep and rocky terrain, aviation resources offer the safest and most effective methods for suppressing the fire. As weather allows helicopters will be used to apply buckets
of water to the fire. Some precipitation is forecasted in the area which could moderate fire behavior. Additional resources are incoming.
Public and firefighter safety remains our top priority. To support this effort, visitors are being asked to avoid the area.
