Participants can sign up for a single class or for both. Materials from the first class will be available to participants who can only attend the part two class. Who can attend: This class is for anyone interested in seed saving, from small farmers to backyard growers. It's also for farmers who are curious about growing organic or in the process of transitioning to organic. The class is free and open to the public. ________________________________ September 9th- Seed Saving 101: Part One <https://wsu.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=360ae1ff3a734621548b3598b&id=6c7e62aabd&e=bae7ffec58> Part one of this two-part series will serve as an intro to the practice of seed saving and the various skill sets and knowledge needed to be successful. Topics for this first class will include: -Brief overview of botany -How to plan for a successful seed crop -Organic seed production and organic seed saving methods -Necessary isolation distances and population sizes -Understanding cross pollination -Introduction to hand pollination -The nuts and bolts of harvest and processing (wet and dry seeded crops) -Storage and maintenance of the seeds -Hands-on demonstration of either dry or wet seed saving and an overview of both methods Registration Date: September 9th Time: 12pm-2pm Location: Sequim; address provided upon registration Register here <https://wsu.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=360ae1ff3a734621548b3598b&id=5fd9baa2dd&e=bae7ffec58> September 11th - Seed Saving 101: Part Two <https://wsu.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=360ae1ff3a734621548b3598b&id=47052e8e2d&e=bae7ffec58> This part two class will build upon the knowledge shared during the part one class. Topics for this second class will include: -Organic seed production and organic seed saving methods, building upon methods taught in the first class -Plant breeding -What are we selecting for, why is that important, and other considerations -Seed cleaning: necessary tools, low tech vs. high tech methods -More in-depth lesson in hand pollination -Methods of documentation -Dehybridization -Multiyear planning Registration Date: In Person!
