Hello Commissioners:
I urge you to consider adopting the Emergency Responder Protection and Enforcement Coordination Act, as advocated by Thurston County Commissioner Wayne Fournier (attached).
I'm sure you're aware of the immigration enforcement raid at the Bear Gulch fire in Mason County. That's what prompted Fournier to suggest the Emergency Responder ordinance. Federal
firefighters are arriving in large numbers in Jefferson County as fire activity intensifies. They should know that we have their back. All Thuston County Commissioners support the Emergency
Responder ordinance.
It's now being considered by the Thurston County legal department. If enacted, I understand that it would be nearly impossible to enforce. But it would be a statement worth making.
I'm in touch with Fournier and will monitor progress in Thurston County. I hope we can duplicate that process here in Jefferson County.
