The 4-H Youth Development Educator coordinates a non-formal experiential educational
program in order for youth, and adults working with those youth, to further develop life skills
necessary as self-directing, productive and contributing members of society.
This is a Clerk Hire position that may work a maximum of 69 hours per month. This position
reports to the 4-H Youth and Family Empowerment Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may
be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to

• Serve as leader of the 4-H After School program and promote 4-H to all eligible members
within the County while following 4-H policies and guidelines.
• Provide leadership to an educational process through which youth and adults learn the skills
of understanding self; acquiring, analyzing and using information; communicating and
relating to others; problem solving and decision making; managing resources; and working
with others.
• Determine program needs by monitoring trends and issues with special focus on issues such
as the mental health and well-being of Jefferson County youth.
• Involve leadership councils and other leadership committees to determine direction of
Jefferson County 4-H program.
• Maintain knowledge of current research information as it relates to youth development.
• Develop and deliver objective and research-based educational programs to meet the needs of
target audiences.
• Implement, evaluate, and report the 4-H Youth Development program to key stakeholders
and administration, reporting impacts to clients, the public, supporters, and administration.
• Coordinate day-to-day activities and events associated with the 4-H After School program.
• Work with the Extension support staff to organize and maintain unit 4-H enrollment and
program files in accordance with Washington State records retention policy.
• Work with staff to maintain an inventory of unit 4-H project and educational support
materials.

• Specify program goals and objectives and identify resources.
• Recruit, train and support volunteers.
• Keep 4-H volunteers informed of upcoming programs, providing leaders with research-based
curriculum and meeting with 4-H leaders to discuss policies and procedures.
• Encourage and promote active volunteer involvement.
• Report program participation outputs and impacts.
• Provide enrichment materials to educators in the public, private, and homeschool
communities.
• Use appropriate technologies and methods to reach diverse audiences.
• Establish working relationships with organizations involved with youth including social
services, day care facilities, public schools, private schools and non-profit organizations.
• Conduct programming in compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative

• Operate a vehicle to travel between work locations or to attend meetings, events and
conferences.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective
functioning of the 4-H Program in Jefferson County.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Responsibilities include working under limited

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be
able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are
representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
An Associate's degree or higher is required. A Bachelor's degree is preferred. A
degree in a discipline related to the subject matter specialty area is preferred.
Experience in planning, implementing, marketing, and evaluating educational
programs for youth; and experience in developing positive interactions with the
public. Experience using and maintaining enrollment database software like
4honline.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Strong written and oral communication skills. Thorough knowledge of grammar and
spelling. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Effectively
communicates verbally in both one-on-one and group settings, including presenting
information to the public and staff.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Washington State Driver's License.
Required to pass criminal background check.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge and experience in planning, conducting, and evaluating participatory
extension or non-formal education programs
• Understanding and ability to conduct community needs assessment to determine
program priorities
• Knowledge of child and human development
• Basic knowledge of educational technologies and their appropriate use in the
development and delivery of educational programs.
