As usual, my home city is going big, and Sierra Club is too. Our range of events include a Dirty Truth and Dirty Chais breakfast, featuring our fifth annual Dirty Truth Report <https://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=59fd3eb440cacebb15063b50ec2852b77afb8522c007dc4fbe2acc8a6af6c129407ea0360b2ccfe5a1c261800f544bdf41247de6015a4363> , and highlighting the ways we are defending progress and mobilizing power across our energy and conservation campaigns. Through Central Park outings and an Explorers Club reception, we will show how Sierra Club is leading efforts to ensure all kids have access to nature. The Sierra Club Foundation is hosting a series of events illustrating the financial impacts of ignoring climate risk, and demonstrating how we can shift capital from fossil fuels to climate solutions. The NYC Group is hosting an event on how climate change is impacting the ski industry and what New York State is doing to combat climate change. Sierra Club experts will join key partners to share how we are working together to block federal rollbacks. This will be one of my first opportunities to represent the Sierra Club as Executive Director <https://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=59fd3eb440cacebb55f822bae037a9559a7e5e01dd643ff84bd5bf103c15e50a 4c0fe10a2d1aabde089c90f135e63105f8185d5515049cc3> and I’m excited to be showing up with an incredible group of staff, volunteers and allies. This comes at a time that could not be more important, when the climate and clean energy movements are under attack like never before. Our hard-won progress is facing threats at every level. Sierra Club is challenging federal attacks in court and continuing to fight for and advance clean energy goals in states across the country. Climate Week will be an important opportunity to highlight how we are meeting this critical moment and preparing for the future. We will be meeting with leaders in business, philanthropy and culture and members of the media to raise resources for and spread the word about the powerful work Sierra Club is doing. Below please find a rundown of some of our most important events and where to find Sierra Club next week in NYC. If you are going to be in New York or are participating in Climate Week activities, please join us at one of the events on the list or reach out directly to Shabina (shabina.bahl@sierraclub.org <mailto:shabina.bahl@sierraclub.org?subject=> ) or myself (loren.blackford@s ierraclub.org <mailto:loren.blackford@sierraclub.org?subject=> ). Learn how you can stand for climate justice, water protection, and a livable future, with speakers from the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, Water Protector Legal Collective, Earthjustice, and Native Hawaiian water protector, with Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi Director Wayne Tanaka moderating. Tuesday, September 23 6:00 PM | Skiing & Sustainability: Achieving Scope 1 & 2 Net-Zero Emissions | Register to Attend <https://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=59fd3eb440cacebb6bb3cf31e2f30ea3101dfc5126ca52e58cb68fe071d85 5b40a9e19810f2614a9ebba8384b8684687e6596dee36b2978b> The Sierra Club New York City Group is hosting a discussion on how climate change is impacting the ski industry and what New York State is doing to combat climate change. Skiing is a massive global industry for tourism, bringing in billions of dollars, but without snow, there is no business. Fortunately, there are ways the industry can lead in sustainability and be an example for other industries. Come check out a lively discussion with panelists Josh Keniston, the Senior Vice President for Operations, Dartmouth College, , Caitlin E. Hicks Pries, the Associate Professor of Biological Sciences, Dartmouth College, Tom Bradley, VP of Sustainability for Boyne Resorts (owner of 10 ski resorts), and our very own Wayne Arden, the Vice Chair of Sierra Club NYC Group. Introductory remarks will be made by Carter Strickland, the Chief Sustainability Officer and Executive Director of Climate Action, SUNY. 6:30-8:30 PM | The Cost of Ignoring Climate Risk | RSVP to Attend <https://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=59fd3eb440cacebb2f579966cc5b67e94d807b3c0026c0b0925eb3eec18f31301c1f5bca6668dca2b84a793403c7 ccc68a6045bb48d10e46> ClientEarth and the Sierra Club Foundation invite you to a panel discussion that will spotlight the growing tension between legal fiduciary duties and the anti-ESG backlash sweeping U.S. politics. Investors, fund managers, and corporate leaders are being squeezed – caught between headline-grabbing threats from politicians and the real-world risks to people’s retirement savings and homes, as well as to companies’ business operations. From courtroom battles to boardroom decisions, the panel will unpack what it means to uphold fiduciary duty in a warming world. Wednesday, September 24 9:00-9:50 AM | Challenging Federal Climate Rollbacks | Private Event Join experts from Sierra Club, Earthjustice, EDF, and NRDC to discuss collaborative efforts to counter the Trump administration’s rollback of key climate and health protections, including challenges to the EPA’s Clean Air Act Endangerment Finding. This panel will explore policy implications, legal strategies, the current judicial landscape, and how broader efforts, including strategic communications and organizing, can help defend foundational climate and health safeguards. 4:00-6:00 PM | Climate Change & Fiduciary Duty: System Stewardship in Theory & Practice | RSVP to Attend <https://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=59fd3eb440cacebb33e349a20e0e5841a16788df44967d9ef0d37 e5ddb1b90c8874dfce29606a9451ce14e19b22db748be5242adcb090962> State pensions, university and foundation endowments, sovereign wealth funds, and other asset owners have enormous power and responsibility for ensuring systemic risks to their portfolios, including climate change and biodiversity loss, are effectively managed and mitigated for their beneficiaries. To date, however, industry practices have largely ignored systemic risks, instead focusing on siloed or immediate company impacts. The Sierra Club Foundation, Sierra Club, Ethic, and other investors will first discuss the theory of system-level investing, and then will cover how it applies to stewardship, proxy voting, debt denial, security selection, asset allocation, engagement, education, policy advocacy, and management of financial service providers. The event will move from a panel into a roundtable discussion format, followed by a rooftop reception at 6pm. Thursday, September 25 8:00-8:45 AM | Dirty Truth with Dirty Chais | RSVP to Attend <https://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=59fd3eb440cacebb92d9e921680de77a4b830a7e0a25e32ee11e2b0cd24bcf9da220695b431eb57d406b18f127b649c77 ae841b5eac30d602d4b8670fa0bc1df> Midtown Drop in for a morning beverage (including dirty chais) as we release the 5th annual Dirty Truth Report, which scores electric utilities on their transition to clean energy.
