Subject: SR 104 Monument
There is concern regarding replacement coverage for the planned State Route 104
monument, to be positioned within the roundabout at the Jefferson County end of the Hood
Canal Floating Bridge, in the event the monument sustains damage due to the location.
The County’s insurance coverage will cover the monument once construction is complete and
has been added to our property insurance through the Washington Counties Risk Pool.
Currently, there is a $5,000 deductible for replacement due to loss. Any damages less than
$5,000 will be required to be covered by the County.
The County is proposing that the Lodging Tax Fund cover the expense of the deductible or
damages up to $5,000, as it is a symbol upon entering our beautiful Olympic Peninsula.
This would not be an expense that would require an award during the LTAC RFP process
each year. If there is a need to cover an expense up to $5,000, the recommended reserve
would be able to accommodate the expense, and the County would appropriate budget
during the County’s budget appropriation process.
Thank you for your consideration.
Respectively submitted,
