It is imperative that we make sure the Hood Canal is protected from degradation and
commercialization in perpetuity. The health of this natural fjord is vital to the health of Puget Sound.
It has already been stressed by pollutants that contribute to low oxygen problems. Allowing a gravel
loading pier and barging operation would not only degrade the shoreline and put the bridge at risk,
but would set a dangerous precedent that others would be able to use to justify future proposals
of industrialization along its shores. Kitsap County residents have as much a right to be concerned
about the Hood Canal's future as Jefferson County residents. I am a resident of Poulsbo. I do not
have property along the Hood Canal shoreline. I urge you to protect the future of the Hood Canal.
