(ECY) Subject:Jefferson County Shoreline Master Program Amendment Categories:LASMP Public Comment Dear Mr. Stewart, As property owners on Marrowstone Island for 16 years, we are totally opposed to this amendment in it's current form for the following reasons; 1. It will decrease our property values under the"legal nonconforming" designation which will affect insurance premiums and resale. Why should property owners adhere to building regulations if down the road the county can retroactively change the rules without a "grandfather" clause, thus making our home illegal ,all without compensation or court action? 2. Selective enforcement of the setback footage. Port Townsend has a setback of 50 feet and Marrowstone Island has a setback of 150 feet. Is the water here more special than in Poet Townsend? We strongly support protecting the environment. We added considerable expense to the cost of building our home to protect the environment. We feel a little COMMON SENSE should be used on a subject of such importance. Thank you for your attention regarding this matter. Sincerely, John Dern Jr. and Sarah J. Dern 1
