Dear Mr. Stewart:
I am in full agreement of having 150 foot buffers which were supported by significant testimony at all meetings
and hearings, and which are supported in the current science as a compromise of buffer widths necessary to
protect shoreline functions.
I also agree that we prohibit commercial net pen farming - because as demonstrated elsewhere, these are
ecologically damaging to our aquaculture.
The SMP does well in prohibiting all mining and mining-related activities on our natural, conservation, and
residential shorelines.
I fully appreciate the care that the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners took to study and analyze
the testimony given by hundreds of concerned people and incorporating those ideas where appropriate; the
involvement of shoreline owners on the Policy Advisory Committee is to be commended; and finally, the
efforts of the DCD staff to keep communication lines open with shoreline owners at every stage of this lengthy
process.
Thank you and your staff for your careful consideration in approving our Shoreline Management Program. You
have our community's full support.
