Mr. Stewart;
I'm making the following comments on the Jefferson County S.M.P.
1. I believe that the setback requirement from shorelines to be excessive. The science quoted in this document is
not accurate, nor relevant to our specific area. Take a look at the shorelines of Jefferson County,
they are some of the best kept & pristine shorelines in Washington State.
2. The shoreline property owners have invested vast amounts of their personal funds to purchase these
properties to build their homes on or to hold for future use. We property owners want to and do take proper
care of our shorelines. I personally have spent many thousands of dollars to go above and beyond the
building & sewage requirements on my waterfront properties just so that the quality of the shorelines at
my properties is protected and well cared for.
3. The owners of existing shoreline homes have the right to maintain and / or modify their properties within the
current regulations. The proposed new S.M.P. will greatly restrict our rights to use our shoreline
properties and will lower the value of our shoreline properties. The resulting lower value of our shoreline
properties could be financially devastating to some of the property owners who have saved for many
years to be able to purchase these shoreline properties. The lower value of the shoreline properties will shift
the tax burden to the non-shoreline property owners who are already struggling under an
oppressive property tax.
4. I urge you to reconsider the setback and development portions of the Jefferson County Shoreline
Management Program.
Sincerely
Karl Jacobsen
