Commissioners:
Regarding the comment about corrugated cardboard:
Garbage service in Port Townsend is via a private contract between the city and DM Disposal (aka Olympic Disposal aka Murrey’s Disposal aka Waste Connections). The city’s contract is
not subject to regulation by the Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC). County residents, on the other hand, will receive services subject only to the tariff that is on file
with the UTC, and should not expect the same services as are experienced by city residents.
From the Port Townsend website:
There is no such statement anywhere in the tariff filed with the UTC for service in Jefferson County outside of PT city limits.
In fact, containers that are overfilled are subject to extra fees and any material left next to bins/containers will not be picked up. If that material interferes with normal pickup
operations, additional fees may be charged. From Tariff 25:
The company reserves the right to reject pickup of any residential receptacle (can, unit, bag, mini-can, or
or micro-mini-can) which, upon reasonable inspection exceeds the size and weight limits shown in Item 20.
If the receptacle exceeds the size and/or limits stated in Item 20, is overfilled,
or the top is unable to be closed, but the company transports the materials,
the following additional charges will apply.
And
In addition to all other applicable charges, a charge of $32.51 (A) per yard (assessed on a pro rata basis) will
be assessed if containers are filled past their visible full limit, container lids will not close due to overfilling,
or if additional materials are placed on or near the containers.
Murrey’s tariff, attached, is on the UTC website:

Commissioners, please be very careful about believing what you are being told by the Solid Waste Division. You are hearing only that part of the story that they want you to hear.
Thank you,
