Mr. Stewart,
I had the pleasure of attending a Jefferson County SMP public comments session many months ago that was
hosted in your courthouse, and I saw citizens of different views standing up and speaking. It was inspiring to
see democracy at work.
As one of your neighbors, and as one who enjoys the nature of both the Hood Canal and the Port Townsend
areas, I strongly support the provisions that you put into your SMP to conserve the natural aspects of
shorelines: specifically the 150 buffers, the prohibition of mining activities on the shore. and your encouraging
natural armoring rather than concrete bulkheads. Concrete is an insidious thing and there is an endless supply
of it. Natural resources, on the other hand, are limited and should be protected if Jefferson County is to retain
its natural wooded and shoreline character.
Your SMP efforts to conserve your shorelines is admirable, and hopefully will preserve Jefferson County's
natural beauty.
Very respectfully,
Michael Maddox
