Dear Jeff,
I am writing to oppose the Shoreline Management regulations Jefferson County is proposing,
that differ from the State and Federal regulations. It is so difficult to have to abide by a
host of different permitting processes with everyone with their finger in the pie. In most
cases, the right hand of government does not know what the left hand is doing and without a
clear cut one regulating set of rules, there are too many to keep track of. We have
regulations in place that govern how we use our shoreline from JARPA, SMA, DNR, Dept of
Ecology, Fish and Wildlife to name just a few. It seems everyone has their hand out to get
more money for the permitting process. Can we make it any more difficult for people to get
approval for even the smallest of projects that end up costing more for permits than the
entire project is worth.
I am concerned about the environment and try to be a good steward, but I find the regulations
are just a tangled web of bureaucracy.
I own vacation property on Hood Head Island and work as an Interior Designer and General
Contractor
