Dear Mr. Stewart,
I thought I had previously sent a supporting note to you about the SMP, but cannot locate it in my sent email.
Please forgive me if you have received a comment from me already.
I do support this plan for a number of reasons, including that:
1. I believe that good and solid science was used when developing the SMP .
2. I have seen numerous attempts by the Dept. of Community Development (DCD) at outreach to the
entire community via the local newspapers and email list-serves in order to elicit needs and comments.
3. I am pleased that this plan offers flexible buffer modifications in a case-by-case circumstance, allowing
for less stringent buffering when there is no loss to shoreline function. This is a clear indication to me
that the DCD and the Board of County Commissioners have considered the needs of all the residents of
Jefferson County and were willing to make compromises when appropriate.
I have been very concerned about overall environmental degradation for many years and appreciate the efforts
that the DCD is recommending to mitigate one aspect of this very serious issue.
