Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. Hi Christina, Our agency has been contacted a number of times regarding this requirement and feels that other options may be just as practical and should be explored. There are collared elk in the vicinity, but those collars are not property of WDFW and we have no immediate plans to place any in the area. The collars in that area have been placed by staff with the Point No Point Treaty Council. A proximity activated light system would be the most challenging option to build and would also be expensive to maintain over time. Our advice is to consult with staff at DOT who work with deer/elk warning signage on a regular basis for their recommendations. They are best suited to identify the preferred options and anything installed would of course need to be approved by them. I hope this answers your questions. The PHMPR project is governed by a development agreement that includes a wildlife management plan (WMP). The WMP requires the installation of flashing road signs connected to collared elk in the two herds present in the area. I understand the collars appear to be unmaintained and that the signs would not be an effective tool in managing human/elk interactions. Can you please tell me about WDFW's intention for the long-term maintenance of the elk collar program? Do you have any recommendations with respect to the flashing road signage?
