Jefferson County's Locally Approved Shoreline Master Program
I want to thank the Department of Ecology for their on-going efforts to protect the shorelines of statewide
significance in Washington State. I would also like to express my thanks to the Jefferson County Board of
Commissioners, the Planning Commission, the staff of the Department of Community Development, and most
of all, the citizens of Jefferson County who have stepped forward to participate in the crafting of the revised
shoreline master program. Many folks have placed their sense of community and place above their personal
interests in order to address rational development and protection of our shores.
I support the SMP and urge you to accept it. If their are glaring issues that need to be considered, then make
these recommendations. But if they are minor, I would recommend that they become part of the next update in
seven years or less. I believe the adopted SMP is comprehensive and workable.
