OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Port Ludlow, WA c15365 Attn: Jeff Evanger Re: Duplex townhouses on South Chandler Court, Port Ludlow BASIS This report is the result of a site inspection on August -, 2002, conversations with Rod Schenk, Professional Engineer, and Robert Shupe, Professional Engineer, and a review of the original truss calculations/details. DESIGN ANALYSIS According to the truss documents the design loads are 25 psf live load and 15 psf dead load on the top chord, with a '7 psf dead load on the bottom chord. Provided the trusses were properly manufactured, these loads are adequate to meet the required design loads for both the Uniform Building Gode and light weight tile roof of 9 psf. INSPECTION During my inspection of the duplex roofs I found that some required bracing was not installed (see the attached exhibit's A, B and C for examples). Specifications require that the top chords be continually braced, ie: sheathing nailed to the top chords or 1x4 bracing installed. This also was missing. One hip truss was noted out-of-plumb, probably a result of the lack of top chord bracing. In other words, the design is adequate, the installation is lacking. RECOMMENDATION In order to fix the errors, the areas in question need to be jacked and/or braced to proper alignment and all permanent bracing noted on the drawings installed as specified (see exhibit's A, B and G). Metal fastener connections should be inspected and corrected as required (jack trusses to hip and/or hipmaster trusses). Once completed, the trusses should perform as designed.
