New Commerce report reviews funding models to preserve manufactured/mobile home communities
Preserving communities as nonprofits or under other housing models ensures housing remains accessible for many people

available to preserve manufactured/mobile home communities (MHCs) as nonprofits or cooperatively run affordable housing.
Commerce convened financial experts, conducted interviews, and identified existing and innovative funding options for eligible organizations to purchase and preserve MHCs. The report

MHCs are a unique segment of Washington's affordable housing stock threatened by rent increases leading to economic evictions, investment-oriented acquisition, and community closure
and redevelopment.
The report found that:
* There needs to be more access to affordable, rapid loans tailored to the unique needs of MHCs acquisition
* MHC real estate transactions are complex and often have short timeframes
* There is insufficient MHC inventory and demographic data available
Community land trusts, resident nonprofit cooperatives, local governments, local housing authorities, nonprofit community or neighborhood-based organizations, federally recognized Indian
tribes in the state of Washington, and regional or statewide nonprofit housing assistance organizations, whose mission aligns with the long-term preservation of MHCs are eligible to
