Expenses reflected in this report are for quarters 1-4. The Chimacum Farmers Market closed for the season on Sunday,
October 26th. During quarters 3 and 4, JCFM spent LTAC funds on co-advertising the Port Townsend and Chimacum
farmers markets in the Seattle Stranger, Seattle Times, Port Townsend and Jefferson County Leader and Peninsula Daily
News visitor guides, and via social media. A portion of these expenses is tracked here, while the rest is billed to our Port
Townsend Lodging Tax grant. LTAC funds were also used to host the Chimacum Farmers Market, paying for weekly live
music, staff time designing advertisements, recording shopper count,s and dot survey results for the LTAC grant, and
hosting pumpkin painting for kids at our season closing market.

Dear Jefferson County Lodging Tax Advisory Members,
Thank you so much for supporting the Chimacum Farmers Market (CFM) for its 17th season
this year. With your support, we extended the market season by an extra month, starting in May
rather than June. We served over 11,000 shoppers throughout the season, with approximately
32% of them visiting from outside Jefferson County.
This year, 34 small farm, food, and arts businesses participated in the CFM. With an extra
month of markets and just over 11,000 shoppers seasonally, participant businesses earned
record-breaking sales of $216,285, a sales growth of approximately 7% over 2024. Local farm
sales mark up about 52% of the total sales this year, strengthening our local agricultural
economy and food system.
The economic benefits of the CFM have a ripple effect, as visitors to the market also support
nearby businesses and stay at local accommodations. The nonprofit Jefferson County Farmers
Market (JCFM) conducted monthly dot surveys and counted shoppers daily to assess market
attendance and gather demographic information about our customers. We recorded a total of
11,097 shoppers. Throughout our monthly surveys, 32% of shoppers reported visiting from
outside Jefferson County, and 18% indicated they stayed at local accommodations. This
translates to approximately 1,997 CFM shoppers who stayed overnight in the area this season.
To estimate the economic value of these stays, we calculate that CFM shoppers spent around
$200 each on lodging, totaling approximately $399,400. Additionally, visitors to the CFM often
explore the businesses surrounding the market or other establishments in Jefferson County,
contributing to an even greater economic benefit for our rural community.
JCFM used LTAC funds to support weekly live music events, monthly activities for children, and
regional promotions. The live music and market events create a welcoming environment,
encouraging both our community and visitors to return for meaningful connections, as well as for
great locally made food and arts. These regional promotions also help new patrons discover
Jefferson County and the CFM. We combined grant funds from the Jefferson County Lodging
Tax (LTAC), Port Townsend LTAC, and a USDA Farmers Market Promotion Program to promote
our markets both locally and regionally. Jefferson County LTAC funds were used for advertising
in the following publications:
● Digital advertisement in the Seattle Stranger and Seattle Times
● Print advertisement in the Waterside magazine
● Print advertising in the Leader and Peninsula Daily News visitor guides
RECEIVED 10/30/25
● Promotion in the Olympic Culinary Loop
Please see example advertisements from the Seattle Times and Stranger included in this report.
Over the years of our partnership with Jefferson County LTAC, we have witnessed the growth of
the CFM. We have attracted a consistent base of local shoppers through banners, flags,
sandwich boards, and local promotions. Additionally, regional shoppers have learned about the
market through our promotions in the Seattle area and on Washington State Ferries. Thank you
for your support in developing our community farmers market and strengthening our local
economy.
Sincerely,
Amanda Milholland
