2025 Election Results: Big Wins for the Environment at All Levels

November 4th’s election results are still fresh in all of our minds, with significant wins for progressives and environmentally-friendly candidates across the country. Democratic Socialists
including Zohran Mamdami and Katie WIlson won in big cities and are carrying headlines, governors' seats in Virginia and New Jersey swung left, and “down ballot” Democrats in Georgia
swung two seats on the Public Service Commission, the body that regulates their utility services.
But what about Washington? How did our Sierra Club endorsed candidates do? Under the guidance from our local group leaders and chapter political committee, Sierra Club endorsed 67 candidates
across the evergreen state running various levels of government, including the state legislature, city councils, port commissions, and school boards. With 51 of our endorsed candidates
securing victories, we’ve locked in environmental champions from up and down the I-5 corridor and all the way east to Spokane.

Following President Trump’s unilateral withdrawal from the Resilient Columbia Basin Agreement back in June, Sierra Club and other plaintiffs and allies have returned to court, continuing
the multi-decade litigation war to save our wild salmon. While the Sierra Club and allied attorneys work the litigation route, advocates for salmon, steelhead, and Southern Resident
orcas have shifted their focus to another forum: the Northwest Power and Conservation Council (NWPCC, or the Council) and its Columbia Basin Fish and Wildlife Program.

On November 3rd, Sierra Club officially joined with other NGO groups in filing their suit against Bonneville Power Administration's (BPA) decision to join a western regional energy market
developed by Southwest Power Pool (SPP) based out of Arkansas known as “Markets+”. Joining Markets+ would result in significant economic and environmental impacts to the Northwest.

Rye Development is twisting the promise of “clean energy” to justify the destruction of Tribal resources. The Goldendale Pumped Storage development, sited in Klickitat County, WA, would
be the largest pumped-storage hydroelectric development proposal in the Pacific Northwest. This development would not only completely destroy Pushpum, a sacred site for Yakama Nation
known as the "mother of all roots". Join the coalition of advocates calling on Gov. Ferguson to stand with Tribes and oppose Goldendale!

The State Building Code Council (SBCC) is considering a set of cutting edge codes that will help to continue the transition of Washington homes and buildings off of fracked gas. The
SBCC needs to hear your voice in support of support climate friendly energy code updates. One of the updates would ensure that as old, conventional air conditioners wear out, they are
