Sent from my iPhone Honorable Jefferson County Commissioners RE: I have written this message for my concern for public safety. I have been following the news of budget shortfalls this coming year 2026. I fully understand the heartbreak when tasked with cutting line items in an annual budgets. When this situation occurs everyone is hurt in some way. I was reviewing your list of interests on the county website. I noticed a great number of notable items. What I found interesting was there was not a single word concerning public safety. I’m very sure the commission is looking long and hard at many cuts including law enforcement, code enforcement and a safe bet looking at fire marshal staffing cuts. The county has a history of underfunding of this essential county responsibility. I must strongly suggest you not fall back to the ways of the past and underfund a very small department so essential to public safety and the well being of our neighbors and friends who have called our county home. Please consider my plea in your budget development. Life safety should always be our first priority to those we serve. Please have this communication read into the record at your next meeting. Acknowledgement of this communication is highly desired. Thank you. Wayne E. Kier, Sr Fire Chief Retired 23 Falcon Lane Port Ludlow, WA 98365
