Dear County Commissioners
I understand that the County is anticipating budgetary difficulties and is considering which facilities it might have to close. I am writing to urge you in the strongest terms not to
close the Recreation Center Gym in Port Townsend. I know there are plenty of other uses (youth activities, preschool, etc.), but the one I'm personally involved in is the five-days-a-week
Zumba classes. On any given morning (except Thursdays and Saturdays) there are between 30-40 people of all ages from all over the County in the gym, having a great time while also
working out and staying healthy. The classes are open to everyone, and they provide social interaction, mental stimulation, and physical activity at all levels, all of which are very
important factors in our well-being. I truly doubt that any other facility gets more use, and it would be a terrible loss, not just Port Townsend but to the entire County. I, for
one of many, would be devastated. It is also the case that there don't appear to be any other suitable venues available, so we can't just up and relocate.
As a County citizen and taxpayer, I beg you to please do whatever it takes to keep the Rec Center gym open and available. If you need to reach me for any reason, my contact information
