Last week was another busy week in Washington, D.C., as we made important progress on government transparency, Tribal sovereignty, and cross-border cooperation. From advancing key legislation
to strengthening regional partnerships, I’m focused on delivering results for Washington’s 6th District while continuing to push for a government that works for all of us. Here’s a
look at what I’ve been up to last week:
Bill to Release Epstein Files Passes
Last week, the bipartisan bill to release the Epstein files passed the House and the Senate — and was signed into law by President Trump. Under the law, the administration now has 30
days to make the documents public, setting the release date for December 19th. This is a major step forward for transparency and accountability. Survivors deserve justice, and the American
people deserve to know who enabled and participated in these horrific crimes so they can be held accountable. My Democratic colleagues on the Oversight Committee and I are continuing
our investigative work on the Epstein crimes and coverup and will continue pushing to ensure the full release of these files without delay.
Cross-Border Dialogue with Canadian Partners
I co-hosted a cross-border roundtable over Zoom with Canadian Member of Parliament Gord Johns to strengthen coordination between Washington state and British Columbia during this time
of turbulent relations between our two nations at the executive level. We discussed shared priorities — from economic cooperation to environmental protection — and the importance of
keeping our regions interconnected and resilient. Our communities rely on one another every day, and I’m committed to continuing this cross-border partnership.
House Natural Resources Committee Markup
At last week’s House Natural Resources Committee markup, I was proud to lead several amendments to the SPEED Act (H.R. 4776) to require Tribal consultation, protect our waters from the
dangers of offshore oil and gas drilling, and restore staffing levels at agencies that process permits for local infrastructure projects. While I agree that we can improve our permitting
process to deliver these projects in a timely manner to meet our community's needs, we must make sure agencies are setup for success to do so – through strong staffing levels – and
including input from all impacted community members.
Hearing on ITARA
My bipartisan bill with Rep. Jeff Hurd, the Indian Trust Asset Reform Amendment Act (ITARA), had a hearing, which is the first step in moving this legislation forward! Our bill would
strengthen Tribal self-determination and cut unnecessary federal barriers that limit Tribes’ ability to manage their own trust assets. During the hearing, I reiterated that Tribal sovereignty
is inherent, not granted, and that Congress has a responsibility to uphold treaties, honor commitments, and ensure federal agencies support Tribes rather than stand in their way.
Highlighting the Importance of Rural Broadband At the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s Tech Summit,
I spoke about the unique challenges facing rural communities in Washington’s 6th District — including areas where residents still can’t get reliable broadband or even basic cell service.
Broadband is a lifeline for telemedicine, distance learning, and emergency response, and the Trump rescissions package zeroing out $1.1 billion for public broadcasting threatens essential
educational programming and emergency alerts in these regions. We need to undo these recissions and invest in rural broadband buildout. Ensuring rural families have equitable access
to lifesaving resources is a non-negotiable for me.

This week, I was back home in Washington state for Puget Sound Day on the Sound, joining my Puget Sound Recovery Caucus Co-Chair Congresswoman Strickland, local partners, environmental
leaders, and community members to highlight the work being done to protect and restore our waters. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I’m looking forward to spending time in
our district, connecting with neighbors, and reflecting on the gratitude I have for the people of Washington’s 6th District.
