Hi, The commissioners are facing a difficult choice in cutting budgets. I would like to put in a word for retaining and perhaps even increasing the budget for the Senior Association which operates out of the Community Center. A partial list of its services includes: hot meals for seniors who might not otherwise get adequate nutrition; counseling for veterans with mental and or physical problems; a foot clinic for those who can no longer safely cut their own toenails; coffee meetings for lonely seniors, particularly males. Then there are the classes. I am a member of a class called "Geezercise" It is an exercise class for seniors. Most participants are in their 70s or 80s although our most senior senior is 93 years old. He recently fell down a flight of stairs but was able to come back to class relatively soon. His doctor cheered him on and said that the exercise was a key component in his recovery and in keeping him going. I have been a member of this class since 2012! Several people have been there longer. In fact, this particular class has been running for something like 35 years. This class is a low cost way for seniors to exercise. Some class participants are on fixed incomes and cannot really afford belonging to a health club. Both the social and the physical aspect of a class that runs three times a week is crucial for the overall mental and physical health of our participants. The geezers are a great group of people who are willing to haul out of bed for a 9 a.m. class. It is truly a self-help class. We don't have a paid instructor. In fact, we all share in leading different exercises. If you want more information about the class and our participation please reach out to me at either my email or phone. My mobile phone is 406-241-9168. Thank you for your attention to this, Maryanne McNellis Geezercize
