Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. Hi Carolyn - Not sure where you're supposed to send public comments these days but I saw somewhere on the county commissioner's website it's supposed to go to your email! Hope that's right, if not, let me know where to send it. See below: Hi there - I am writing to add my voice to the number of people who are showing their support for the Jefferson County Rec Center and all it offers to the members of this community. While I understand the county commissioners have to make some hard decisions during the budgeting session this year, cutting funding from the Rec Center is the wrong move. The county has long undervalued the Parks and Recreation department. We are lucky to have tons of volunteers who spend their time maintaining trails and organizing free sports programs for kids, but this is not sustainable. We need to shift this mentality, and start supporting these programs. There is enough research by now that shows how investing in public programs saves money down the road. We won’t need such a large public safety budget if we have healthy, well-connected citizens. I’d love to see a robust Parks and Rec staff in our county’s future. And we can start down this road by choosing not to put the Rec Center on the chopping block during this year’s budgeting. Also - shout out to Parks and Rec employee Chris Macklin who has worked tirelessly over the years making the Rec Center a welcoming place for everyone! Lily Haight
