Dear Commissioners,
Thank you for all your hard work. Spending the day with you has further reinforced how dedicated you are to this important work.
We need an EDC that truly serves our community. Ideally, the development of the Economic Development Framework would be led by the existing EDC staff. They bring valuable experience
and expertise, but two key gaps can only be addressed by engaging community members with deep experience in economic development planning in this community over the last 20 years:
1. Community knowledge – An understanding of local dynamics, which takes time to develop.
2. Relationships and trust – Building the connections necessary to break down barriers and foster the candid conversations required to create an actionable framework.
As the primary funder of the EDC, you are in the best position to lead this process. The work the EDC team did last year in preparation for the December ICG meeting was substantial.
By building on that foundation and evaluating the successes and challenges of the WealthWorks model, we can move this initiative forward more effectively.
Engaging the community through the EDC to ensure all elements of a sustainable economic development framework are considered will lay the foundation for long-term success.

Dear Commissioners
In light of your conversation today regarding the capacity of the EDC to lead the economic development framework, it would be useful to find out what happen with the Economic Development
Framework that the EDC present last year with Cindy Brooks and Nick Walker. It would be productive to understand what about this framework did not work for Jefferson County.
