Commissioners Brotherton, Dudley-Nollette, and Eisenhour,
I know the County is dealing with a tough budget, but I was really disappointed to hear that closing the Rec Center is on the table. It’s one of the few true community hubs we have,
especially for young families and seniors. Cutting it sends a tough message to the people who already feel overlooked in this county.
My family is part of the Port Townsend Cooperative Playschool, which has been meeting at the Rec Center for years. It’s an important space for our toddlers to learn to be around other
kids and for parents to build the tools and support networks that make early childhood survivable. If the Rec Center closes, Playschool is at risk.
Closing this facility would hit exactly the populations that need the most support. I strongly encourage you to look for other ways to balance the budget.
