The above-reference proposal was reviewed by this department relative to the below noted jurisdiction/sources: • International Fire Code,2003 Edition, Chapter 9, Section 903.3.5.1 . Washington Administrative Code Chapter 246-290-490 . American Water Works Association Cross Connection Control Manual • Jefferson County Coordinated Water System Plan . NFPA 13R, et al • International Plumbing Code, Section 608.3 The following constitutes this plan reviewer's findings and determinations based upon the plans of record submitted. Findings&Determinations: 1. Occupancy Class: The proposal was reviewed a as a Group R, Division 3 occupancy with an assumed Type V-B construction classification; and, 2. An automatic fire suppression system (sprinklers) is a voluntary installation of the proponent proposing a residential fire sprinkler system from domestic water supply, and ; 3. The total number of sprinkler heads shall be less than twenty [20] heads on any single connection, and; 4. Valves shall not be installed between the domestic water riser control valve and the sprinklers, except when an approved indicating valve supervised in the "open" position in accordance with International Fire Code Section 903.4. 5. Structures or properties served by water supply from a public service main that are found to not have back-flow prevention check-valve assemblies shall be retrofitted with the same if separate sprinkler system service lines are installed. The installer shall assure that the new 2" domestic service line has cross-connection control, and; 6. Any water system provided with a check valve, backflow prevention, or pressure-regulating device which does not have a bypass feature at its source, shall be provided with an approved, listed, adequately sized pressure relief valve or means to control expansion as required by the International Plumbing Code. . • 7. Back-flow prevention for the automatic fire sprinkler system is found to be consistent with Washington Administrative Code Chapter 246-290-490, and; 8. The double check-valve or other assemblies shall receive routine confidence test and recordation along with the sprinkler system consistent with State health standards and the American Water Works Association Cross Connection Control Manual recommendations, with a copy of the report provided to the water system purveyor when applicable, and maintained by the building owner, and ; 9. The automatic fire sprinkler system is found to be designed, and certified by a licensed technician (W.A.C. 212-80), and; 10. A complete set of as-built drawings of the system shall be maintained by the building owner on premises, and; 11. All above-ground piping and appurtenances shall be in spaces where a minimum 40-degree ambient temperature is maintained at all times. Any other applicable or relevant sections of the noted Codes not covered herein shall nonetheless apply to this proposal. The total number of sprinkler heads shall be less than twenty [20] heads on any single connection. 2. The domestic service shall be capable of supplying the simultaneous domestic demand and sprinkler demand, as required to be hydraulically calculated by NFPA 13, 13R, or 13D. 3. Valves shall not be installed between the domestic water riser control valve and the sprinklers, except when an approved indicating valve supervised in the "open" position in accordance with International Fire Code Section 903.4. 4. Back-flow prevention shall be accomplished with the following devices, unless determined otherwise under the jurisdiction of the International Plumbing Code, and, in the order of City preference: • Double check-valve assembly--DCVA • Double check detector assembly—DCDA • Residential single-check valves are not allowed. 5. The back-flow prevention device or other installed assemblies shall receive annual confidence test and recordation in conjunction with the sprinkler system. A copy of the report shall be provided to the City of Port Townsend Public Works Department. 6.
