This shows that we are not self sustaining and must beg for money from the Federal government. He Commented on Rick Sepler's function of insuring houses in PT look like they should. Arrogant people have told the County what they can and can't do with their property. DCD efficiency they should appoint Friday as fast track Friday to expedite permits. 9:13:23 AM Kees Kolf clerk, clerk : Commented on recent attacks on global warming. His concern now is only increased. He commented on melting glaciers and methods used to track global warming. The data at the UW is compelling. 9:16:39 AM Paul Richmond, Attorney clerk, clerk : Thanked the BOCC for public comment period. He commented on the budget and the economy. Local efficiencies may be taken such as studies. Certain cased are prosecuted in J.C. that don't get prosecuted in other Counties. County should look at public defender officers. 9:19:43 AM Craig Durgan clerk, clerk : Commented on need to get grant money to run our County. We have a lack of economic development. We need to look at our own economy to try to figure out what to do with it. Things are tight right now and we may not get money from the Federal government. We are billions of dollars in debt to other Countries. Locally, we can do more here. The County needs to move forward on its economic development plan. 9:23:03 AM George Yount clerk, clerk : Commented on use and abuse of PRRs. Three citizens have submitted the majority of the requests. He asked that the County track the time and person responding to PRR. 9:26:11 AM Jim Fritz clerk, clerk : Submitted copies of report. 2000 apps were submitted for a position in a friend's business. He commented on politics in connection with grants. 9:27:38 AM Jim Tracy clerk, clerk : Commented on Mr. Younts comments on legislation to change the open public meetings act. This is McCarthyism. It is difficult to determine the establishment of the intent to harrass. 9:30:11 AM Mike Belenski clerk, clerk : Commented on his not being recognized to speak last week and at a past HB meeting. He commented on Mr. Younts comments about PRRs. and asked about differing standard for certain individuals when it comes to public comment. 9:33:26 AM John Geiser clerk, clerk : Commented on building department staff sitting at a desk when he is needed out in the field. He concerned about inspectors doing clerical work instead of what they should be doing. 9:34:52 AM Consent Agenda clerk, clerk : JA moved to delete letters re: Joseph F. Wheeler Theater and Ferry items 10 & 11 and approve the balance of items. PJ seconded the motion. The motion carried. JA said he feels all member should sign. PM explained that DS asked for these letters and if approved by the Board he will also sign and give to our delegation while he is in DC. JA moved that two letters be approved. PJ stated he is not sure he supports a high speed passenger ferry between Port Townsend and Seattle. JA explained that a more economical ferry may be used. A foot ferry takes the place of an automobile. One ferry will not cause a bedroom community. It will show conformity with Chamber and promote tourism. PJ stated that he is not comfortable with it. Motion died for lack of second. JA supports the ferry. PJ moved to approve Wheeler theater letter. JA seconde the motion. The motion carried. 9:48:10 AM BOCC Briefing 9:48:12 AM JA clerk, clerk : Commented that units were removed from Silent Alder timber sale. He went to DNR meeting last week. Price of timber is beginning to rise. Stick built housing has not picked up. Wednesday, State BOH meets in Centralia. They will be reviewing rules for class B water systems. State Parks meets next day in Lakewood. He will encourage them to support Tomanowas Rock project. Report from Visitor Information Center from highway 104 and SR 19. Almost 100 more visitors in Jan/Feb than in prior years. 9:51:38 AM PJ clerk, clerk : MRC meeting in Coupeville. Snohomish PUD gave presentation on powered generators. 160 in Admiralty Inlet. No projections given at this presentation. Legislation may give compensation to Counties for any degradation. JA asked if there were protective fences to protect marine life. PJ said no. Tidal power may be the answer. He commented on meetings he attended last week and will attend this week. PJ and JA discussed census. 10:00:00 AM PM clerk, clerk : This Thurs. he is talking to East Jeff. Rotary to discuss County issues. He commented on citizen comments on econ. dev. Unemploy rate in J.C. rose to 10.6%. PC met and focused on econ. dev. plan element of comp. plan. Team Jeff. was also there. Staff will be meeting with Port and City to discuss interlocal agreement and common vision and strategy. They are working on finalizing broadband proposal to fed. government. Also working on finalizing the Resource Conservation Manager grant, Port has dropped out. He sadly reported on fatality on highway 101 last week. Iron Mountain Quarry submitted application and environmental documents that are being reviewed by staff. Electronically, and number of questions were raised about occupancy at Bay Club. He will follow up.
