Attachments: PortTownsendLeader[1].pdf; PortTownsendLeader[2].pdf Hi Philip,   th Re: the Dec. 13 presentation to the BoCC, the County’s School Garden Coordinator and several parents and children would like to say “thank you” to you and the Board for funding the School Garden and Compost program.  You may recall that this pilot program was begun in 2009 and runs till the end of 2010 with 75% of funding coming from an Ecology grant secured by Public Works’ Solid Waste Division, which is also making the 25% match.  Total program funding for the 2 year grant period was just shy of $99,000.   These funds have been used to support the community garden movement, creating neighborhood-scale food waste and yard debris composting centers throughout the county in favor of a centralized system.  It has also been used to partner with the Port Townsend and Quilcene School Districts in creating a food and yard waste landfill diversion program with a school garden at the center of it.  The garden program has proven very popular with over 500 students now enrolled in this voluntary program and both the Grant Street and Quilcene schools diverting 100% of all food waste. I’ve attached a “thank you” that Public Works ran in the 11/24 edition of the Leader (note the first of many supporters listed) and an article that’s in the current Leader.   Thanks again for supporting this great program.   Al Cairns Jefferson County Dept. of Public Works Solid Waste Coordinator (360) 385-9243 acairns@co.jefferson.wa.us     12/6/2010 èÔ×ð×ÛØ×Ê ùÍÌÃêרÇÙרÈÍÖÊÍÏÍÊÓÕÓÎÛÐÈÍÖÓÈÐ×ÈÈ×ÊÌÛÕ× ùÍÌÃÊÓÕÔÈ? îÍÆ×ÏÚ×Ê ÌÏ ìÍÅ×ÊרÚÃè÷ùîûæóû èÔ×ð×ÛØ×Ê ùÍÌÃêרÇÙרÈÍ ÖÊÍÏÍÊÓÕÓÎÛÐÈÍÖÓÈÐ×ÈÈ×ÊÌÛÕ× ùÍÌÃÊÓÕÔÈ? ø×Ù×ÏÚ×Ê ÌÏ ìÍÅ×ÊרÚÃè÷ùîûæóû
