Hi Heather, We are reaching out to you in your role as a County Commissioner to request support for a growing national movement among Counties. This effort is to work together to share how we measure, evaluate, and collect public health data. For many years, Counties have independently developed or purchased their own measurement tools, survey tools, and data collection software to inform critical policy and County decisions. While well-intentioned, this individual approach has resulted in different and inconsistent measurement standards across Counties, limiting our ability to compare outcomes, benchmark performance, and learn from other County Health Departments. Four years ago, our national workgroup of more than 100 Counties came together with a shared purpose: to create a free, nationally accessible library of commonly used County measurements, surveys, and primary data collection tools. This collaborative effort is now helping Counties reduce duplication, save resources, and align around evidence-based standards. We have now grown to over 750+ Counties working together. Due to the success and momentum of this initiative, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), through the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) grant, has made funding available to States to support participation for all County Health Departments. Learn more about our CDC funding here. <https://lhdacademyofscience.org/aos-funding-partners/> We respectfully ask that you encourage your Health Director and other County staff involved in primary data collection to attend our upcoming National Conference to learn about this funding. The conference is virtual and free to attend. Registration using this link <https://lhdacademyofscience.org/aos-national-conference/> As County Commissioners, ensuring that our jurisdictions work together and produce high-quality measurements is essential. In the future, shared standards will allow counties to benchmark performance, compare outcomes across jurisdictions, and make more informed decisions on behalf of the communities we serve. Thank you for your leadership and for considering support of this important national effort.
