HomeMy WebLinkAboutCONSENT Noxious Weed appointment Bruce Zoellick JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS CONSENT AGENDA REQUEST TO: Board of County Commissioners Josh Peters, County Administrator FROM: Sophie DeGroot, Noxious Weed Control Coordinator DATE: January 26, 2026 SUBJECT: Recommendation of Bruce Zoellick to the Noxious Weed Control Board STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Noxious Weed Control Board currently has two empty seats on the Board: District 2 (Cape George, Gardiner, West Discovery Bay) and District 4 (West End, East Discovery Bay, Lake Leland). ANALYSIS: Bruce Zoellick was appointed to the Noxious Weed Control Board late last year (2025) to fill the District 2 seat. The seat that he filled had an active term that ended on December 20, 2025. I advertised on our website and in the Leader, as required. Bruce reapplied for the seat and on January 12, 2026 during a Noxious Weed Control Board meeting, the Weed Board voted to recommend the BoCC appoint him to the District 2 seat for a new term. Bruce is highly qualified for this role because of his 37 years working as a Fish and Wildlife Biologist [Private Consulting Firms (3 years), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (3 years), U.S. Bureau of Land Management (27 years), and U.S. Forest Service (4 years)]. In his roles, he worked on noxious and invasive species of flora and fauna (please see his application for detailed explanations). He has extensive knowledge of control techniques and currently uses them to coordinate noxious weed control on community properties in the Cape George Community. FISCAL IMPACT: This request is fiscally neutral. RECOMMENDATION: I recommend the appointment of Bruce Zoellick to the Noxious Weed Control Board to represent District 2.
