Sponsored by Humana and Freedom Financial, the event brought together the golf community to support local Veterans through the power of the game. The tournament featured 16 teams and a total of 63 golfers. Thanks to the enthusiasm and generosity of participants and sponsors, the event raised $11,400 to benefit PGA HOPE clinics throughout the Pacific Northwest Section. One of the most powerful moments of the day came from PGA HOPE Ambassador Jeanie Butler, who played alongside Veteran Kevin Wilson. Due to injuries sustained during his service in Iraq, Kevin lost his sight—but through strength, perseverance, and the support of his coach and guide dog, he continues to play golf. “I had the honor of golfing with a fellow veteran who sacrificed so much more than I did for this country,” said Jeanie. “With his coach and guide dog by his side, he crushed it on the fairways and made some beautiful putts. He’s such an inspiration and exactly what PGA HOPE is about.” PGA HOPE Ambassador Jeff Bojanowski also shared emotional remarks during the event. “I never would have imagined the support the community has for the military community until I got involved with PGA HOPE,” he said. “Seeing all of you here brings a tear to my eye and fills my heart with joy.” Congratulations to the winning team of Joel Skarbo, Tony Wilkins, Edward Lyon, and Jacob Clay! The success of the event wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible generosity of our golf community. Thank you to all the golf facilities that donated rounds of golf for our auction, the PGA Professionals who contributed lessons, and our vendors for providing fantastic raffle items. 100% of these donations went directly to support future PGA HOPE programs <https://links-1.govdelivery.com/CL0/https:%2F%2Fpnwpga.com%2F2025%2Fpnw-pga-we-got-your-6-scramble-results%2F/3/0100019be6f888d7-6cb1fd2a-3815-4a15-ac33-e856f9b5e31b-000000/X4NDjbnSs6dLBSV-b5V-Fydn 2Aojr1JTYdT37CeHyng=441> . The course was designed as a nine-hole place of respite on the VA hospital near Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Its mission is to offer essential rehabilitation and recreational opportunities for Veterans, many of whom suffer from severe disabilities. In 1995, funding for the operation and maintenance of all VA golf courses was discontinued. Nevertheless, this course continued to operate through a volunteer program. After falling into disrepair, the course faced potential abandonment. In 2014, Jack Nicklaus designed the new back nine holes and concurrently redesigned the existing front nine holes. Nicklaus’ work is the centerpiece of the $4.5 million project at American Lake called “A Course in Courage: Healing America’s Veterans through Golf.” <https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/USVHAVISN20/2024/01/8906235/5226702/americanlakedav_crop.jpg> The renovated front nine reopened in 2022, making it an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course.
