Hello Heather, Greg and Heidi,
I plan to write an article for next week's Beacon publication, which I would call a temperature check around ICE, given the amount of conversation and speculation in the community.
I'd like to look at the conversations and preparations that the BCC and County staff might be having these days; what concerns you are hearing from the community, etc.
I thought I would provide you some questions here for guidance around the direction I am pursuing. I'm happy to take direct answers to these questions either via email or phone, and
we can certainly veer away from these specific questions if another direction serves the purpose of best informing readers.
What information, if any, has the city or county received regarding recent or upcoming immigration enforcement activity in Jefferson County?
How does information about federal enforcement actions typically reach local governments—formally, informally, or not at all?
Have County officials received inquiries or concerns from residents related to ICE in recent weeks or months?
How is the County preparing to respond if immigration enforcement activity were to occur locally?
Are there contingency plans if community fear or disruption increases?
How will the County communicate with the public if enforcement activity occurs?
I think that's plenty for now. My deadline is Monday at 3pm.
Thank you for your attention to this. Feel free to respond via email or phone.
Best regards,
Scott France
